Billing & Plans

Lithora is priced per seat and billed monthly. Two self-serve plans — Pro and Scale — plus a custom Enterprise agreement for larger organizations.

The short version

  • Monthly only. There is no annual plan, no yearly price, and no prepay discount. Every subscription renews month to month.
  • No free tier. An account with no active trial and no subscription is locked — you keep your data, but paid surfaces stop resolving until you subscribe.
  • 7-day trial on both paid plans. No credit card required to start it.
  • You pay for members, not guests. Read-only guests never appear on the invoice.
  • One invoice per workspace. Seats are totalled and charged to the workspace owner.

Enterpriseis a custom, sales-handled agreement built on Scale's entitlements — same feature set, negotiated limits, contract and invoicing terms. Contact sales to scope one.

What counts as a billable seat

A seat is billed when a membership is active and its role can write. Everything else is free.

Billable — one seat each

  • The workspace Owner
  • Admins
  • Members

Never billable

  • Guests — read-only, capped at 5 per team on Pro and 25 on Scale
  • Pending invites — an invitation that has not been accepted
  • Deactivated members — removing someone frees their seat
  • Public share link visitors — they never have an account in your workspace

Use guests for stakeholders

A client, an exec, or a contractor who only needs to watch progress should be invited as a Guest, not a member. See Roles & Permissions for exactly what a guest can and cannot do.

How the invoice is built

  1. Lithora counts the active, billable memberships across the workspace's teams.
  2. That count is multiplied by the plan's per-seat price — $10 on Pro, $29 on Scale.
  3. The total is charged as a single monthly invoice to the workspace owner. Members and guests are never charged individually.
  4. The seat count is realigned with the payment provider whenever someone joins or leaves, so adding a teammate mid-month does not require a manual plan change.

Download PDF invoices any time from Settings › Billing — they are itemized for accounting.

Trials and the locked state

  • 7-day trial: Both Pro and Scale offer a 7-day trial and neither asks for a credit card up front. You get the plan's full entitlements for the duration.
  • Locked: When a trial ends without a subscription — or a subscription lapses — the account moves to the locked state. This is not a free plan: paid features stop resolving and you are prompted to choose Pro or Scale. Your work is not deleted.

Gating follows the team owner

Paid features resolve from the plan of the team owner, not the person clicking. If you are a member of someone else's paid workspace you get that workspace's entitlements even though your own account carries no subscription.

Changing plans

Upgrades and downgrades run through secure checkout from Settings › Billing. Pick the target plan and confirm — the new entitlements apply as soon as the payment provider confirms the change.

Downgrading is limited by your current usage

Scale's limits are higher than Pro's across teams, members, guests, storage, file size and AI allowances. If you are over a Pro limit — say 30 members in one team — reduce usage below the Pro ceiling before downgrading, or the smaller limits will block writes afterwards.

Cancelling

  1. Go to Settings › Billing and choose Cancel subscription.
  2. The cancellation is sent to the payment provider first. If the provider does not accept it, nothing changes locally and you are told to retry — you are never shown a cancellation that did not actually happen.
  3. By default you keep paid access until the end of the billing period you already paid for. When that date passes, the workspace lapses to the locked state.
  4. No further charges are made — the next renewal simply does not happen. Because you keep the access you already paid for through to the end of the period, that period is not refunded.
  5. Your data stays put. Cancelling does not delete projects, work items, docs or files.

Changed your mind before the period ends? Use Reactivate on the same page to resume the subscription.
